Paper on soot formation in flames

Bisetti & coworkers have published an invited paper in the Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society A. The paper is available here​.

"We have performed and analyzed data from a campaign of large-scale simulations of the physicochemical processes leading to the formation of soot in a flame under realistic turbulent flow conditions. The results are unique and novel in terms of completeness and extend the data available from experiments significantly. Our analysis demonstrates how databases generated via direct numerical simulation (DNS) of turbulent combustion are used to unravel complex physical mechanisms and to support improvements to engineering models for the formation of pollutants, thereby
enabling the design of low-emission engines and combustors and contributing to mitigating the adverse effects of fossil fuel combustion."
